Amazing Race Process

 OTAO KITCHEN INTERNAL PROCESS

 

AHEAD OF THE CHALLENGE

 

  • Confirm preferred cuisine. We’ll start offering 3 cuisines: Vietnamese, Korean and Chinese. We may add other cuisines as more processes get established.

  • Source prizes for the winning team - suggested authentic food products related that complements the chosen cuisine 

  • Prep and setup benches in advance, including prizes wrapping



FIRST HOUR

  • Welcome to the team. 

  • Health and safety instructions.

  • Teams to be divided into as many teams up to 10 people fitting up to 5 benches

  • Explain Amazing Race logistics:

  1. Half of the team goes on the race, the remaining stays at the kitchen selecting a name for the group, identify roles (e.g. who cooks what, who presents, identify what will make their dish stand-out, what will make the most creative impact, etc)

  2. Teams will draw their position in the race. Each team will leave the kitchen in 5-minute intervals to avoid meeting and/or following each other. 

  3. Record individual team departure times!



NEXT 1-1.5 HOUR

  • Once the teams are back to the kitchen, record their arrival time and proof of sabotage mission.

  • Offer refreshments

  • Brief the teams on the next steps

  • Cooking demonstration of the chosen cuisine

  • Identify and demonstrate how to use the chosen ingredient(s) in the dishes

  • Teams go back to their benches to replicate and enhance the dishes. They need to prepare an extra portion of the dish for judging and handover to the chef for later judging.



FOLLOWING 30 MINUTES

  • Team enjoy their meals with drinks

  • Judging session and award presentation

  • End of challenge

AMAZING RACE SCORING

 

The winning team will be the team with the lowest overall time. As a final task, each team will complete a cooking competition using the special ingredient. Each point scored will represent -30 seconds off of each team’s overall time. 

 

FOOD JUDGING

 

Judging will be based on the World Food Championship E.A.T. methodology (Execution, Appearance and Taste) to ensure teams are judged on the same criteria and consistently.

 

The leading chef will score the dishes out of 20 points, for a maximum of: 

 

  • 10 points for Taste (1 inedible, 10 excellent)

  • 5 points for Appearance 

  • 5 points for Execution.



TOTAL SCORING

 

Lead chef will consolidate the points from the race and food judging. The team with the lowest overall time at the end of the amazing race is declared the winner.

Welcome to the thrilling and suspenseful OTAO KITCHEN AMAZING RACE! 

 

Get ready to embark on a mission full of excitement and challenges. Follow these instructions to complete the hunt and earn points towards the final cook-off. 

 

You will be doing 

 

• Search for hints to find a secret ingredient

• Obtain something edible

• Return to the kitchen

Race against the clock to complete this race in the shortest time possible.

 

RACE RULES

 

1. Form teams of 4-10 members each.

2. Respect the rules and regulations of the locations visited.

3. Maintain sportsmanship and fairness towards fellow participants, customers, and staff.

4. Embrace your creativity and problem-solving skills to conquer the challenges.

5. You can request hints along the way. Each hint incurs a penalty of +2 minutes. 

6. The winner will be the team with the best overall time - LOWEST!

7. To receive a hint, text your team number and puzzle number.

Bonus Mission Paparazzi Mission - Stealthy Team Photo! 

Task

Capture a photo of another or someone on another team without being noticed while ensuring you, or one of your team members is in the shot too. It must be taken outside. Your face(s) and theirs must be clearly visible. Bonus points for a hilarious gesture. It doesn’t count if the other team notices you, or is looking at your camera. The reward is -2.5 minutes off of your overall time, with an additional -2 minutes off for a really funny photo.

Return to Otao kitchen to begin your cooking challenge. You will text The Chef the code and the door will be open for you to get back in.

Clue 

In response to an inquiry about the kinds of animals kept, a farmer replies, “I only ever keep sheep, goats, and horses. In fact, at the moment they are all sheep bar three, all goats bar four, and all horses bar five.”. How many does he have of each animal? Don’t be afraid to ask for a hint.
